The Minister for Roads and Highways, Hon. Asenso Boakye is currently touring the five northern regions of Ghana
The purpose of this tour is to inspect ongoing road projects, assess progress, address necessary interventions, and communicate the government’s intention to introduce new road projects in these regions. On Tuesday, June 11, 2024, he visited the Nandom Municipality. Before arriving, he commissioned a EU-funded road project in Daffiama Bussie Issah of which Nandom is a beneficiary. Additionally, he inspected the deteriorating Wa-Sawla-Bole 100km Road after a courtesy visit to the Wa Naa. The company of the Roads Minister included the Hon. Upper West Regional Minister, the Member of Parliament for Nandom constituency, Hon. Ambrose Dery, representatives from the Ministry of Roads and Highways Authority, Urban and Feeder Roads and the MCE for Nandom, Hon. Raymond Nero. During the inspection in the Nandom Municipality, the first stop was the Kambaa Bridge. While impressed with the pace of work, the Roads Minister also remarked that the old bridge weak and narrow. Consequently, he urged the contractor to expedite action to facilitate the timely completion of the work to ensure the smooth flow of commuters, goods, and services, as the bridge functions as an international corridor to sub-Saharan regions. The contractor, in submitting his report indicated that the work is about 60% complete. The main challenge faced was the recent persistent rains, but he expressed optimism that the bridge construction would be finalized by the ending of July 2024, as he assured the Roads Minister. He proceeded to inspect several roads within the Municipality, with a particular focus on the Danko-Nabugangn-Brutu Urban Roads Project. The Minister expressed his satisfaction with the quality of work completed by the contractors. During his address to the media and the audience, he praised the Member of Parliament for his immense contributions towards road infrastructure in the Municipality. Furthermore, he noted that the government is in the process of upgrading roads in the area. Of the 44km of road construction earmarked for completion, approximately 75% has been accomplished, translating to completion of 33km of roads thus far. Additionally, he mentioned plans for the dualisation of the Nandom town roads, which are currently in the design stage. He assured that soon, the contractor will come to site. During a short speech, the Hon. Member of Parliament, Hon. Ambrose Dery, expressed his delight at the Roads Minister's visit to inspect the progress of work in the Municipality. He also commended the government for its unflinching support and various socio-economic interventions in the area. Additionally, he shared his conviction that the government, with the support of the European Union and other fund donors, will achieve first-class roads in the region by the end of October 2024.
