60TH INDEPENDENCE ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN NANDOM

Ghana’s 60th Independence anniversary was marked with a colourful ceremony at the St. Andrews Park. In attendance were school children, teachers, various heads of departments and their workers, traditional rulers, civil society organisations and the general public.

As tradition demands the anniversary day was marked by a parade of school children from first, second cycle and tertiary. For the basic schools (first cycle); a total of forty-four (44) schools comprising of Seven (7) KGs , Eighteen (18) primary and Thirteen (13) JHS. The second cycle schools were Six (6) and one (1) tertiary institutions with two (2) Civil Society groups also participated. The climax of the parade was a colourful display by the Cadet Corps of St. John’s Technical/Vocational Institute and Ko Senior High School.

The District coordinating director; Mr. Abudul Karimu then read the anniversary speech on behalf of the president of the republic of Ghana. In his address he acknowledged all dignitaries who were present to grace the occasion. He thanked the children from the schools for their excellent march. He noted the contribution of our forbearers for their immense struggle for independence of our beloved country.

All invited schools that participated in the parade were given certificates of recognition and participation whilst three schools from each category were awarded for good performance in the parade. Each school received a certificate and a cash prize.

The Nandom District Assembly and the Nandom District Education Directorate awarded Naa Imoru Junior High School for Consistent Improvement in the BECE performance over the past three years. The school was given a citation and cash reward. In a short statement before the presentation, the District Director of Education; Mad. Rose C. Kaatah congratulated the Headmaster, staff and students of Naa Imoru Junior High School for their remarkable achievement. She further encouraged other schools to also emulate their hard work.
