NANDOM DISTRICT ASSEMBLY TO CONSTRUCT TRAINING CENTRE FOR PLWDs People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs)

People Living with Disabilities (PLWDs) from the Nandom District and its surroundings will soon benefit from an ultramodern Disability Skill Learning and Business Centre. It will serve as a meeting point and a training and skill development venue for all persons living with disabilities within Nandom District and its immediate environs. This will equip them with skills for income generating activities.

This was revealed by the District Chief Executive Officer of Nandom, Mr. Thaddeus Arkum Aasoglenang in an address on the occasion of supporting People Living with Disabilities in Nandom.

According to Mr. Aasoglenang, a needs assessment carried out among People Living with Disabilities in Nandom, suggested that a Disability Centre is the most pressing need for the group at the moment. He appealed to the Disability Fund Management Committee to as a matter of urgency, liaise with the leadership of the PLWD to arrange for a parcel of land at a vantage point, to be purchased for the construction of the Centre.

The DCE said “This year 2018, the Assembly has received an amount of GH₵ 196,681.24 from the District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) for persons with Disabilities in the Nandom District. This is by far the highest we have received from the DACF since the District was established in 2012” He added that the Nana Addo Dankwah Akuffu Addo led Government, Has always focused the concerns of PLWDs has developed compelling but deliberate policies that will support their course.

Mr Aasoglenang said “Today, the District Assembly through DACF will be supporting 253 PLWDs with equipment and machinery for startups, Farming activities, Mobility, Assistive devices, Educational and Health support. All these, amounts to about GH₵ 74, 3400.00”. He indicated that government has increased the number of beneficiaries of the Livelihood Empowerment against poverty program (LEAP) in the Nandom District to 2,915. This according to him is the way to go with the poverty reduction process.
