On Tuesday, 27th May 2025, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Anthony Ziniel, embarked on official site visits to the Tampele, Bekyenteng, and Kandebegangn communities to assess the progress of ongoing works under the SOCO Phase II Projects.
At Tampele, the MCE was met with a disappointing sight. The construction of a 6-unit classroom block with a library had come to a standstill since 29th November 2024, despite building materials being on-site and the foundation already laid. Recognizing the urgency of the matter, Hon. Ziniel wasted no time in directing the review and possible termination of the current contract and re-award to a new contractor. This decisive action was necessary because the existing school block could no longer accommodate the growing student population, and a more spacious learning environment was paramount.
The mood brightened upon arrival at Bekyenteng, where the contractor’s swift and quality workmanship impressed the entire inspection team. The 6-unit classroom block with a library was already at the roofing stage, with assurances from the contractor that completion was just around the corner. This project promises to be a cornerstone for promoting progressive and quality basic education in the community — a key step toward realizing the government’s commitment to nurturing Ghana’s future.
However, the situation at Kandebegangn painted a stark contrast. The school’s infrastructure was in dire need of attention, parts of the building required re-roofing, much of the recently supplied dual classroom furniture lay broken, and the overall culture of maintenance was lacking. Hon. Ziniel has called for a detailed situational report and, in close collaboration with the Ghana Education Service (GES) Directorate, vowed to close all gaps swiftly. The aim is clear: to transform the school into a conducive environment where both teachers and learners can thrive.
The MCE’s unwavering quest to uphold quality education echoes the vision of the President's vision who is championing accessible and excellent basic education as the foundation for national development. By taking firm steps to bridge these gaps, Hon. Ziniel is ensuring that the government’s promise to build a strong educational sector is more than just words, it is a work in progress, steadily marching towards success.
