GR3

On Friday, June 9th, 2023, the celebration of Green Ghana Day marked the third successive year since the President of the Republic, H.E. Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo launched the initiative in 2021. The nationwide event, themed "Our Forests, Our Health!", was observed in the Nandom Municipality by organizing a staff durbar. Key stakeholders were invited to participate in the day's activities. This year, the Municipality was allocated 18,000 seedlings. The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Raymond Nero, praised H.E the President for the initiative in his address. He commended the initiative's potential to help control ozone depletion caused by human activities such as deforestation, serve as a strategy against climate change, and help reclaim degraded lands. Furthermore, he mentioned some direct and indirect benefits forestry provides, such as health benefits like medicinal or food products, and services such as clean water, air, and shade. The MCE also encouraged everyone to participate in planting the seedlings in schools, hospitals, churches, and all other institutions in the Municipality, taking cognisance of the theme. In conclusion, he expressed his satisfaction in ensuring significant tree growth in the Municipality and in some schools after last year's celebrations. He indicated that deserving schools received awards on this year's Independence Day at Ko.
