REPORT ON INTRODUCTION OF SNV’S HEALTHY FOR ALL “WASH’’ 3YEARS PROJECT IN THE NANDOM MUNICIPALITY 2023-2026
On Tuesday 14th March, 2023, a key development partner in the Nandom Municipality, SNV paid a brief visit to the Assembly to meet with the Hon. MCE and some heads of units and departments. In the company of SNV’s Country Director were five (5) other hardworking officials who over the years have been responsible for the full implementation of all the organisation’s earmarked projects in the Municipality.
The purpose of meeting was to brief the Hon. MCE on a new three (3) year programme they are yet to roll out in the Municipality. This Healthy for All programme specifically the WASH programme the Country Director mentioned, was for the organisation to look at its sustainability, continuously focus on sanitation and environmental health to aid in improving personal hygiene and also to secure a safe environment for habitation of indigenes in schools, hospitals and homes.
Three (3) most important things he emphasized on were fact that starting from this year, they are looking at a holistic approach by seeking collaboration with financial institutions, NGOs, other government agencies and the private sector to help improve water infrastructure, relook at strengthening the value chain, in addition to addressing behavioral change.
Hon. MCE addressing all attendees present, first of all thanked and praised SNV for the massive contribution to matters of sanitation in the Municipality citing the unmatched achievement of Nandom been declared the first Open Defecation Free (ODF) district in the entire country.
He however, pleaded with parties involved to ensure items received from the organisation are used for its intended purpose and also adopt a good maintenance culture. That notwithstanding, like Oliver Twist, he asked for the organisation’s continuous support to help maintain the healthy environment standards they have so far set in the Municipality.
Contributions pertaining challenges encountered so far in the various projects implementation been outlined by the various Heads of Units and Departments at the meeting, were duly noted for consideration by the SNV team.
Subsequently, the SNV team presented an ultra-modern foot operated hand washing machine with a mini poly tank to the Assembly. This was in a way to announce their official roll out of the three (3) year programme in the Municipality.
