The Piiri Community is another beneficiary of SNV's Healthy Future For All programme. On Wednesday, June 21, 2023, a durbar of chiefs and people of Piiri, along with the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Hon. Raymond Nero, the Municipal Health Director, health professionals, and the SNV team gathered at the Piiri Health Facility to commission a Solar-Powered Water System. This event followed a successful commissioning at the Baseble Community.
The event, though short-lived, left a lasting memory as the community expressed gratitude to the SNV organization for initiating a project that would greatly improve water, sanitation, and health in the community.
In a brief address, the Project Manager for SNV, reflected on the challenging journey they faced, but the team never gave up until the project reached completion. The Municipal Health Director also expressed endless gratitude to the organization, but like Oliver Twist, she urged SNV to replicate the establishment of the Solar-Powered System at the various sub-district hospitals in the Municipality. The Hon. MCE in his address also indicated that government under the leadership of H.E the President, is highly interested in water, Sanitation and environmental cleanliness and for that matter, had created a separate ministry i.e. The Ministry for Sanitation and Water resources to be in charge. He emphasized once again the importance of adopting a good maintenance culture for the facility. This is to ensure its longevity and for the community to continue to enjoy future development projects from SNV.
