The Library project was executed with Funding from the District Development Facility (DDF) through the Nandom Municipal Assembly and it is the first of it kind in the Municipality.

At a short ceremony for the Libarary , the Municipal Chief Executive for Nandom, Hon. Thaddeus Arkum Aasoglenang said the construction of the Library is in line with the vision of the President of Ghana H.E, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufu-Addo, which is to prioritize education especially at all levels. Hon. Aasoglenang said the Library facility is one of the numerous infrastructural projects the Government of Nana Addo Dankwah Akufu-Addo has rolled out in the last three years in the Nandom Municipality. The Municipal Chief Executive explained that the relevance of the construction of the Library facility in the Nandom Municipality is not in doubt. He indicated that the culture of reading especially at the Basic School level is very paramount in their educational development. According to the MCE, the larger plan is to also come out with mobile libraries so that other school pupils at the remote areas of Nandom can also have access to reading books.

Hon Aasoglenang said Nandom has been the beacon of educational development in the Upper West Region in particular and Ghana as a whole. This he said is reflective in the number of human resource personnel in various disciplines engaged in various institutions and also dotted around the world.

According to the Nandom Municipal Chief Executive, the performance in the Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) and the West African Senior Certificate Examination (WASCE) in the Municipality leaves much to be desired. He called on all stakeholders in educational sector in the Municipality to ensure performance is improved with the advent of the new Library. He said the Member of Parliament for the Nandom Constituency, who is also the Minister for Interior, Mr. Ambrose P. Dery, commissioned eminent experts e in the education sector led by Prof D. Kuupole, to conduct a research into the dwindling situation of performance at the BECE level. “As a result, the Member of Parliament is committing a lot of resources to compliment the efforts of the Municipal Assembly to improve performance in the Municipality” He said.

The MCE added that “completion of the project is the first phase and the second phase will include adding more furniture, stocking the facility with learning materials, making water available, walling among others before it can be commissioned for use”.He has therefore called on sons and daughters including other stakeholders to help in the stocking of the learning materials for the Library to be ready soonest for use.

Hon. Aasoglenang expressed his gratitude to the Catholic Church and His Lorsrdship, Boshop Richard K. Baawuo, Bishop of Wa Diocese for releasing the land for the construction of the Libarary. He said the Catholic Church is the sole reason for the proliferation of schools in Nandom. He explained that most of the schools from Basic and Second cycle were started by the Catholic Church.
